About The Position

This is a position in the treatment and rehabilitation of clients of the center with behavioral health disorders. The Mental Health Technician Lead is responsible for the delivery of services necessary to assist clients in daily living on a treatment unit or in a residential program. This position is also responsible for answering telephone calls, taking messages for staff, greeting and assisting clients and members of the public in communication with agency staff. The Mental Health Technician Lead assists in maintaining medical records, conducts general word processing, copying, filing and general clerical duties. A person in this position oversees the daily flow of chores, facilitates groups, passes medications, and oversees client activities. Work is performed independently or as a shift lead when working with an MHT I, MHT II &/or MHT III. This person has demonstrated the competence required to work independently within the limits of established policies and under the indirect supervision of the MHT Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in human services preferred.
  • Knowledge of addiction, co-occurring mental health conditions, and crisis stabilization.
  • Experience in staff supervision, management, or program coordination preferred.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with veteran affairs/services and ability to collaborate with veteran-focused organizations preferred.
  • Staff will meet competency expectations, including integration of evidence-based practices and required certifications by successfully completing the following training which will be conducted in all of the following manners, but limited to in-person training, online training, webinars, seminars, workshops, and self-directed training. All training, certifications, and competencies will be documented by completion certificates when available and maintained by the Training department.
  • Obtain Certification for Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training. MOAB is an in-depth training program that teaches individuals how to recognize, reduce, and manage violent and aggressive behavior. Training provided.
  • MOAB training requires controlled movements, body positioning, and the ability to perform physical holds and restraint techniques.
  • The focus of MOAB training is to use techniques that can be effectively applied by employees of varying physical capabilities while minimizing potential harm to both the individual being restrained and the trained themselves.
  • First Aid CPR Training.
  • Provide training to all MHT employees. Training them on daily shift duties, such as conducting group lectures/discussion, attendance, monitoring of medication and reviewing medication protocols, social detox monitoring, meal prep and other additional duties assigned.
  • Required to follow dress code policies of any alternative work locations, including but not limited to schools, jails, courts, detention centers, other community partners, etc.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25-50 pounds occasionally.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking may be required.
  • Frequently bending, stooping, or kneeling to assist clients or perform tasks.
  • Ability to reach overhead and handle objects or equipment.
  • Be able to get on the floor and rise without assistance.
  • Have full mobility in both arms and shoulders.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff effectively.
  • Strong curriculum development and training facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality regulations and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to develop relationships with local veteran organizations, VSOs, and agencies.
  • Ability to oversee quality assurance processes and staff competency development.
  • Provide training to all MHT employees. Training them on daily shift duties, such as conducting group lectures/discussion, attendance, monitoring of medication and reviewing medication protocols, social detox monitoring, meal prep and other additional duties assigned.
  • Thorough understanding of confidentiality regulations.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of veteran-specific services, including outreach, events, and partnerships with organizations such as VA, American Legion, VFW, ROTC, and National Guard.
  • Support integration of veteran-competent care through training, policy development, and program implementation.
  • Collaborate with the training coordinator to evaluate veteran competency across staff annually.
  • Filing, maintenance of client records and general office duties.
  • Monitor weekend passes and curfew for individuals in the reintegration level of care.
  • Monitor client behavior and document.
  • Prepare and monitor work crew assignments.
  • Obtain UAs on clients.
  • Conflict resolution among clients.
  • Routine inspection for maintenance needs.
  • House cleaning supervision and assignment.
  • Meal preparation supervision and assignment.
  • Documents the need for supplies and commodities when identified.
  • Monitors building security throughout shift & addresses irregularities.
  • Document client interactions.
  • Reports to the MHT Supervisor.
  • Facilitates the delivery of services to clients when scheduled.
  • Initiates activities as outlined in the group schedule.
  • Is oriented and competent in overseeing clients for tornado and/or fire drills.
  • Acts as on-site liaison for the MHT Supervisor and provides oversight to daily operations.
  • Providing on the job training (OJT) for MHT I, II & III via behavioral modeling.
  • Provides one on one training with MHT I to achieve competencies.
  • Provides one on one training with MHT II to achieve competency on training MHT I.
  • Provides one on one training with MHT III to achieve competency on training MHT I & MHT II.
  • Attending to Client needs.
  • Complete and maintain proper documentation of time and services within 24 hours.
