About The Position

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) works daily in partnership with the Mental Health Coordinator to provide care and support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges in a variety of settings, including our outpatient and residential facilities. The MHT aids in the treatment, observation, and rehabilitation of patients under the guidance of our healthcare professionals such as our psychiatrist, physicians, and registered nurses.

Requirements

  • Education – High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Experience -- Minimum of two years’ experience working and/or volunteering within healthcare, social work, or healthcare settings.
  • Training in crisis intervention or behavioral management is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Aid clients with daily activities, including hygiene, eating, and exercise.
  • Monitor patients’ physical and emotional well-being, reporting changes to the clinical team.
  • Administer prescribed medications as directed by licensed professionals (if certified to do so).
  • Facilitate individual or group therapeutic activities to encourage socialization and skill building.
  • Provide a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment for clients.
  • Implement treatment plans under the direction of clinical staff.
  • Observe and document patients’ behaviors, mood changes, and responses to treatment.
  • Record vital signs, food intake, and other relevant health metrics.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Intervene in situations involving patient agitation, aggression, or distress.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage behavioral crisis.
  • Ensure patient and staff safety by adhering to facility protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintain correct and confidential patient records.
  • Aid with scheduling appointments or coordinating transportation for patients.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to improve care practices.
