HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division, with more than 11,000 employees, is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, the company has designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. As the largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, Ingalls Shipbuilding is simultaneously building four classes of ships and has pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades. The role involves planning, preparing, issuing, and controlling production schedules, and coordinating with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. The manager will advise management on the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials, and services are provided as needed. This includes scheduling equipment and personnel, confirming material supply and demands, and preparing work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load, and inventory requirements. The position also requires coordinating interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc., and scheduling and expediting the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers, and requests for shipping orders. Additionally, the role includes common management responsibilities as listed in Shipbuilding Management Charter 0001 within command media (SBMC 0001).
