Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond? What You Will Do: The Quality and Process Engineering (Q&PE) organization is looking to add a Metallurgical Testing Analyst to the team. This position is for an engineer to perform metallographic evaluation of blade and vane airfoils for various manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for metallurgical sample preparation, evaluation, disposition and quality documentation of materials and processes. Interpretation of blueprints, specifications, procedures and laboratory manuals to assess what testing is required and conformance to requirements is a critical aspect of this position. Responsibilities will include regular interaction with Operations and Engineering disciplines to help respond to metallurgical problems and develop effective root cause and corrective action for manufacturing problems. Effective team player and contributor utilizing the CORE tools and continues improvement by maintaining EH&S and operating requirements in order to assure a safe and productive working environment. Position may also require occasional off-shift and weekend coverage based on business requirements.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree and 6+ months of experience within Engineering, R&D or Metallurgical Lab, supporting laboratory related activities and studies; OR Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience; OR Associate’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • US citizenship required due to government contracts
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Secret-level Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred fields of study include Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of MCL Lab operations, processes, procedures, best-practices and quality standards, ideally in an aerospace environment.
  • Ability to use inspection tooling, and materials lab testing equipment including metallographic mount and polish, microscopes and other equipment.
  • Operational experience in metallurgical evaluation lab and use of metallurgical lab equipment.
  • General experience with Metallographic Techniques for Thermal Spray Coatings.
  • Knowledge of Welding Metallurgy and P&W coating specifications.
  • Experience interpreting technical data, engine manuals and blueprints.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement tools (CORE/ACE/SixSigma, QCPC and RCCA).
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office, SAP ERP, Solumina and Teamcenter systems.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization including senior level management and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform metallographic evaluation and documentation of various processes including advance aluminides coating, EDM, braze, grinding used in blade and vanes airfoils.
  • Provide clear, concise and accurate lab reports
  • Maintain records, mounts and sample residue retention
  • Monitor testing frequency of all processes
  • Develop cut up and evaluation sheet for all tested parts
  • Perform annual ESA/MCL audit and five years MCL Source Qualification surveys
  • Interacts with other functional groups (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, materials) on routine technical matters.
  • Investigation of various parts and process related problems
