Metal Fabrication & CAD Technician, Subscale Lab

Swarm AeroSpokane, WA
5h$30 - $39

About The Position

Swarm Aero is redefining air power, building the largest swarming UAV and most versatile swarming aircraft network in the world. The company is moving quickly to launch the first aircraft designed specifically for swarming as well as the Command & Control software to mobilize swarms of thousands of heterogeneous autonomous assets and empower human operators to achieve superhuman results. The team has created and exited multiple startups, negotiated defense deals worth billions of dollars and designed and built 30+ novel aircraft, with aerospace experience from Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic. We're looking for a Metal Fabrication & CAD Technician to join our Subscale Lab and take ownership of the internal structural backbone of a full-scale aircraft model. This is a role for someone equally at home in CAD as they are on the shop floor — designing aluminum frameworks one moment and cutting, machining, and assembling them the next. You'll work closely with engineers to turn evolving concepts into real, manufacturable structures, moving quickly and adapting as the design does. If you thrive on the challenge of building something that's never been built before and take satisfaction in seeing raw material become finished structure, we'd love to meet you.

Requirements

  • Experience with metal fabrication, machining, or structural assembly
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Experience working with aluminum structures
  • Comfortable moving between digital design and hands-on fabrication
  • Experience building prototypes or one-off structures
  • Candidates for this position must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • To conform to U.S. Government controlled technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate the internal metal structure supporting a full-scale aircraft model
  • Collaborate with engineers to translate concepts into manufacturable structures
  • Create CAD models for structural components and assemblies
  • Cut, machine, and fabricate aluminum structural elements
  • Assemble and install metal frameworks and mounting structures
  • Work alongside rapid prototyping engineers to integrate printed and fabricated components
  • Iterate quickly on designs as requirements evolve
  • Support general prototype fabrication efforts across the Subscale Lab
