About The Position

The MEP/Energy Engineering intern will be coached and guided by the MEP Engineering Managers. As an intern, you will be part of the MEP Design and Commissioning Team. Two of the main responsibilities of the MEP Engineering Managers in the Design and Commissioning team are to provide code-compliant MEP Design for new construction projects and lead the MEP systems commissioning and inspections to ensure the successful completion and mechanical, electrical, and energy code adherence of new projects. During the term of your internship, your focus will be to: Collaborate with the rest of the Design and Commissioning Team to assist with the MEP design and commissioning of new and existing construction projects. Perform building HVAC load calculations and energy modeling for new and existing construction projects using software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, and Equest. Use Comcheck to demonstrate Energy Code compliance on MEP design projects. Produce sets of Energy Code-compliant MEP drawings. Perform HVAC energy calculations for the NYS Clean Heat Program and other incentive programs. Perform NYC DOB Special and Progress inspections to ensure mechanical and energy code compliance. Assist in identifying Energy Conservation Measures (ECM’s) for existing buildings. Assist with or prepare presentations for internal and external use using Google Slides and Adobe programs (InDesign, Photoshop) Help troubleshoot and find solutions to unique MEP challenges in new and existing projects. Requirements

  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and digital direct controls
  • Skilled with Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD, familiar with Bluebeam, Excel, and Google Docs.
  • Strong organizational & interpersonal skills- active participation in design meetings.
  • Quick learner, able to multitask, and is proactive.
  • Passionate to learn, being creative, and being solutions oriented.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • experience with Computer Fluid Dynamics software (OpenFOAM, Fluent, or similar)
  • Experience with load calculation software (Trane Trace or similar).
  • experience with Energy Modeling software (Equest or similar) + Comcheck.
  • skilled with programming languages (Python, C++, or similar).
