About The Position

The MEP Designer I is an entry level role responsible for assisting in the design and documentation of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, retail, and institutional building projects. Under the direct supervision of senior staff, this role supports the development of electrical drawings, calculations, and technical documents in accordance with applicable codes, project requirements, and internal design standards. The position provides an excellent opportunity to gain foundational experience in mechanical and electrical building systems design, software tools, and coordination processes within a multidisciplinary environment.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems and engineering principles.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with Bluebeam is a plus.
  • General understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering software (e.g., AGi32, Energy Pro, Visual, SKM) is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to take direction, follow through on assigned tasks, and work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 0 - 3 years of professional experience in electrical design, preferably within a building systems or consulting engineering environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensure in progress or willingness to pursue licensure is preferred.
  • ABET - accredited degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and layout of basic mechanical and electrical systems under direct supervision.
  • Perform redline revisions and drafting using Revit, AutoCAD, and other design tools.
  • Support the preparation of construction documents, including plans, schedules, and basic specifications.
  • Develop and update standard details, notes, and documentation to support senior designers and engineers.
  • Coordinate with internal team members (architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural) to ensure design integration and consistency.
  • Participate in internal project meetings to understand project scope and design direction.
  • Respond to guidance, feedback from senior team members, and incorporate changes accurately and efficiently.
  • Gain exposure to the building design process, construction documentation, and relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA).
  • Observe coordination meetings and client discussions to build communication and problem solving skills.
  • Learn industry tools and techniques related to pipe and duct routing, equipment scheduling, circuiting, and panel schedules with support from senior staff.
