The Mentor or Journey Worker supports the incumbent teacher apprentices with guidance and mentorship. This role models effective teaching practices, supports professional growth, and contributes to a collaborative learning environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one) year of employment with Wu Yee Children’s Services
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field or 30 ECE units or more
  • Currently serving as a Lead Teacher or in a higher position.
  • Current Wu Yee employee
  • Minimum of 5 years of lead teacher or supervisor experience
  • Have an incumbent teacher enrolled in the IRISE program in their center

Responsibilities

  • Observe the Apprentice: Observe the incumbent teachers in the classroom and document their teaching practices
  • Model and mentor: Join the incumbent teacher in the classroom for at least 30 minutes every week to demonstrate and support them in teaching practices.
  • Provide Reflective Support: Meet with program participants for 30 minutes every other week to reflect on classroom observations.
  • Guide Activity Development: Support apprentice in designing and implementing activities with children.
  • Foster a Supportive Environment: Create and maintain reflective and supportive classroom and center
  • Collaborate with Peers: Participate in a bi- monthly community of practice to share strategies and collaborate with other mentor/journey workers.
  • Engage in Professional Development: Participating in ongoing training and professional development activities as needed.
  • Efeective Practice: Demonstrate exemplary teaching practices for Apprenticeship Program in the classroom.
  • Provide Reflective Support: Meet with program participants for 30 minutes every other week to reflect on classroom observations.
  • Guide Activity Development: Support participants in designing and implementing activities with children.
  • Foster a Supportive Environment: Create and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to professional growth and exemplary practice.
  • Collaborate with Peers: Participate in a monthly mentor teacher seminar/community of pracitce to share strategies and collaborate with other mentor teachers. Chose 1 month a year to co - faciliate
