About The Position

Effective School Solutions (ESS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join their clinical team. ESS is one of the country’s leading providers of school-based mental health services for K-12 students, serving over 2,000 students across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and the West Coast regions. The company was founded on the concept of offering higher acuity clinical care within the public-school building. The MHT is responsible for direct client care, including in-classroom support, social/emotional counseling, crisis management and de-escalation, and data collection and observation. The MHT also assists with classroom management and structuring when required, playing a crucial role in supporting clinicians to ensure student well-being. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in behavior analytics, excellent communication skills, and a passion for fostering a positive and supportive environment for students and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a school or clinical setting, with a focus on supporting the mental health/behavioral needs of students.
  • Experience working with students and families, as well as community mental health and social service agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective problem solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic therapeutic interventions and counseling techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by students in a school setting.
  • Strong commitment to improving mental health services for students and school districts.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with ESS clinicians to provide comprehensive support for students' mental health and well-being.
  • Monitor and track student progress in collaboration with clinicians, providing timely updates to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and reinforcement of the individualized care plans for students requiring mental health support.
  • Co-facilitate group interventions and support sessions as directed by clinicians to address common challenges among students.
  • Assist in therapeutic milieu management, for example, create and distribute passes, lunch support, scheduling of therapeutic sessions, learning strategies support, escort students, etc.
  • Push into classrooms to observe and provide support.
  • Collect student specific data and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) when necessary.
  • Assist with crisis situations promptly and effectively, providing immediate support and coordinating with clinicians, school staff, and parents as necessary as assigned by the licensed clinician.
  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding data collections, observations, scheduling, etc.
  • Collaborate with family and support services to enhance the support network available to students.
  • Perform case management duties including but not limited to referrals, linking families to community resources.
