About The Position

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is looking for a dedicated Mental Health Technician 2 to join the Nursing Float Pool team. This role will be full-time day shift: Full-time Night Shift working 3 x 12-hour shifts, 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. The Mental Health Technician 2 under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients whose care requirements are routine, standardized and with predictable outcomes. Demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while serving as a unit preceptor for all new Mental Health Technicians Assists unit leadership with oversight of the unit's Mental Health Technician education needs/compliance. Provides individualized patient support for activities of daily living including bathing, feeding, bed making and measurement of vital signs and intake/output. Provides information to patients, families and visitors which may include orients patients to the unit/program, explains rationale for rules or restrictions and provides printed information. Serves as a resource and unit preceptor for all new Mental Health Technicians. Works with the unit leadership to ensure Mental Health Technicians have current competencies and skills to perform their work. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • Two years of experience as a Mental Health Technician 1 or Clinical Technician 1 at Inova Health System and/or two years as psychiatric technician at another facility.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association- upon start
