Basic Job Functions: A Caster Technician is a lead person on the Caster deck. A teammate in this role will lead the team in Safety, Profitability, and Teammate Development while engaging with other areas of the mill. The Caster Technician is responsible for the proactive and preventive maintenance of equipment to ensure efficient operations. Caster Techs are expected to assist maintenance teammates with troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing equipment, as well as cross-training in order to certify as a Caster Pulpit Operator. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Requirements

  • 6 years of experience as a Caster Technician or equivalent role.
  • Relevant experience must include choosing mold powders based on desired performance characteristics, adjusting machine operating parameters to improve slab surface quality and throughput, and root cause investigations to eliminate equipment downtime.

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Advanced technical training (Casting/Steelmaking courses, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, equipment alignment, circuits, ibaAnalyzer, etc.)
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience
