The employee in this position performs duties as outlined on the official position description, which involves contact with residents in a civil facility or institution. This is advanced professional work supervising and directing employees. The primary duty of the incumbent in this position is to spend the majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to effectively recommend actions such as: hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, promote, discharge, assign, and reward or discipline direct reports. Evaluates employees against established standards and takes appropriate actions when necessary (i.e. recognition, reward, corrective action, etc.). This position requires lifting, pulling and squatting. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management. This independent work assisting management in the coordination of administrative tasks and/or assignments which are complex in nature and very broad in objective with integration of diverse functions. Work involves the performance of administrative objectives and priorities. It also involves assignments which require independently making decisions and obtaining solutions by operating within well-established policies, rules and regulations. Supervision of a clerical staff in the administrative functions of a Civil Unit. Assists in conducting daily administrative activities and/or directing special projects or activities, including inspecting and requesting all building and equipment maintenance needs for the unit. Keeps record of all work performed by hospital support services. Performs fiscal, personnel, purchasing, statistical, reporting, and other major office functions. Processes a variety of routine correspondence, investigates subject matter and prepares replies. Reviews records and reports which require action and recommends solutions of courses of action, including scheduling patients in unit for staff conferences and maintaining record of same. Provides input and recommendation for budget, including maintaining inventory records and participation in future planning assessment needs of equipment, and ensure proper ID of all equipment in unit. Maintains current information of division policies and programs and processes routine matters within established policies. Performs special assignments, research and report preparation. May represent supervisor at meetings to furnish or obtain information. Be aware of all current rules and regulations, policies and procedures, and review and coordinate implementation of changes or addition to rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Assists in preparing decision papers. Performs related work as required.
