About The Position

The Medical Staff Affairs Coordinator at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is responsible for coordinating all administrative and operational activities associated with the medical staff. This includes managing credentialing, privileging, and other compliance-related processes, as well as maintaining medical staff records and ensuring the hospital's adherence to industry standards and regulations. The coordinator serves as the subject matter expert for their assigned facility regarding medical staff governing documents and policies, privileging practices, and accreditation and regulatory issues. They facilitate all aspects of credentialing, including appointment, reappointment, and privileging for the medical staff. The role also involves representing administrative issues to foster collaboration between physicians and hospital management, interacting with Quality management/Peer Review and physicians to utilize data for identifying practitioners who may not meet the standard of care, and managing communications of the organized medical staff. Additionally, the coordinator collaborates with other Medical Staff Offices and the Credentials Office to create and implement efficient, effective policies and criteria governing credentialing and medical staff operations. This is a full-time, day shift, hybrid position located in Charlottesville, VA, requiring on-site hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Level Degree or Current National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) Certification as Certified Provider Enrollment Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM); certification may be considered in lieu of Bachelors Degree
  • 3 years of Medical Staff relations experience
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team with complex structures in a hospital environment

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all administrative and operational activities associated with the medical staff of the hospital
  • Manage credentialing, privileging, and other compliance-related processes
  • Maintain medical staff records
  • Ensure the hospital's adherence to industry standards and regulations
  • Ensure compliance with the governing documents and the state and federal requirements and applicable accreditation standards for assigned hospitals, medical staff and its committees, services
  • Act as the subject matter expert for his/her facility in the areas of medical staff governing documents and policies, privileging practices, and accreditation and regulatory issues
  • Facilitate all aspects of credentialing, including appointment, reappointment and privileging for the medical staff
  • Represent administrative issues successfully to influence collaboration between physicians and hospital management
  • Interact with Quality management/Peer Review and physicians to use relevant data to enable identification of practitioners who may not meet the standard of care for the hospital
  • Manage communications of the organized medical staff
  • Collaborate with other Medical Staff Offices and the Credentials Office to create and implement efficient, effective policies and criteria governing credentialing and medical staff operations
