The Medical Assistant will collaborate with the cardiology team to support patients by addressing any barriers to care, coordinating follow-up appointments, and assisting with a variety of tasks to ensure smooth patient care. They will coordinate cardiac clearances, patient scheduling, follow-ups, lab and DME orders, assist with arranging transportation and ensure appointment confirmations. The Medical Assistant assists physicians as they assess, examine and treat patients. Responsibilities include patient flow management and various diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections and vitals. Acts as liaison to physicians to ensure patient satisfaction. Maintains and orders supplies for their area as needed. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson Escorts patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification. Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures and medical history information. Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within information technology systems within established scope of practice. Assists physicians with examinations, various diagnostic procedures, and may perform EKG and venipuncture/injections in the office, using appropriate skills to provide quality care to the patients. Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements. Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and to facilitate smooth operations of the office. This position will include the following: 1. Cardiac Clearances Review surgical details including date, location, type of anesthesia, and check office notes for prior clearance. Send a message to the provider requesting cardiac clearance, including all relevant information. 2. Scheduling Patients for Providers 3. Hospital Follow-Up Calls Contact patients post-discharge to confirm they have: 1. Discharge instructions 2. Medications 3. Follow-up appointments 4. Genetic Testing Place orders for genetic testing as needed. 5. Patient Notification of Normal Results Call patients to inform them of normal test results. 6. Obtaining Lab Results Retrieve lab results from external labs such as LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics. 7. Transportation Coordination Arrange transportation for patients through Health Fleet. 8. Zio Monitor Placement Placement of Zio cardiac monitors. 9. Appointment Confirmation Calls Make calls to confirm upcoming appointments. 10. No-Show Follow-Up Calls Contact patients who missed scheduled appointments
