Our Medical Assistants provide clinical assistance by taking vital signs, preparing specimens, assisting patients, as well as some general office support services. At Briarwood Health Associates you will assist with various procedures, such as arthrocentesis and wound care. BHA supports Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, and Cardiology. You will also execute various tasks while working directly with physicians and nurses:

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Medical Assistant Associate: 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Medical Assistant: 0-1 years of relevant experience
  • Some office experience

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one-year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory care clinic setting and Rheumatology clinic and/or practice.
  • Familiar with UMHS electronic medical records system (MiChart).
  • Knowledge of University and Department of Internal Medicine policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced customer friendly environment.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Works well with minimal supervision.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, hard-working, flexible, detail-oriented, and positive minded individual with demonstrated skills in interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to take direction from a multiple number of medical clinicians and supervisor and work efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, consistently uses available time effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Participate in in-service programs for the medical staff.
  • Must have excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.

Responsibilities

  • Stock/sterilize rooms.
  • Assist with refilling prescriptions.
  • Assisting patients with mobility restrictions, e.g. getting out of their wheelchair on to exam table.
  • Clean and stock exam rooms
  • Assist with various procedures (arthrocentesis, wound care, etc.).
  • Basic medical assistant competencies (EKG, medical history, vital signs, etc.).
  • Injections and specimen collection and processing
  • Maintain supplies.
  • Assist with telephone triage
  • Patient intake (e.g., documenting chief complaint, vital signs, height, weight).
  • Work directly with physicians and nurses regarding patient concerns/Issues/questions.
  • Basic clerical tasks that require proper telephone technique, basic typing, computer, and data entry skills
  • You will provide patients with appropriate educational/preparation information for procedures.
  • Print laboratory reports for patient visits.
  • You will obtain insurance authorizations.
  • Work in an electronic medical record system (MiChart) updating notes and patient medication lists.
  • Conduct chronic pain management tasks per protocol (MAPS report, generating drug screening lab requisitions).
  • Other duties as assigned.
