About The Position

This posting is for a Mechatronics Engineering design, development & leadership role in the Thomas Built Buses Mechatronics Engineering development team. The roles and associated responsibilities are focused on the development of advanced vehicle components, wiring, power distribution, and control systems for the School Bus products. This position manages mechatronics engineering projects and staff to support the production and servicing of the school bus products. Successful candidates will apply the theoretical principles, engineering techniques and practical experience towards designing vehicles that are safe, compliant, reliable, serviceable, energy efficient, competitive and use the latest technology available in the industry. Apply theoretical principles and engineering techniques in designing a vehicle that is reliable, serviceable, energy efficient, competitive, and uses the latest technology available in the industry. Interface with engineering personnel to determine the most effective and economic design and materials to be used in product parts. Interface and coordinate with multiple internal departments and external suppliers in the product development and testing phases. Research state-of-the-art developments in the vehicle industry and apply the latest advances. Apply statistical and engineering techniques in designing and testing. Use programming and modeling techniques in conjunction with mathematical analysis. Interface with product regulation and compliance personnel to design vehicles that meet government regulations, restrictions and codes. Interface with the Test and Validation team to analyze problems encountered in prototype development and testing. Provide creative and technically feasible solutions. Lead a dedicated functional area platform team to successfully develop and launch new electrical and controls systems and options for school bus applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college/university required
  • Full understanding of CAN message formatting & network topology requirements for the serial control and communication networks typically used in today's heavy-duty vehicles (CAN)
  • Experience and understanding of medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle electrical systems and controls
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills, including cross-functional collaboration
  • Understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes & downstream impacts
  • Project Management
  • Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Project)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree with focus in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, or Automotive Engineering from an accredited college/university
  • 5 years of related experience preferred
  • Experience developing and releasing commercial vehicle electrical systems and controls to production
  • Working knowledge of Capital Harness System (CHS), CREO, or similar CAD system electrical workbench.
  • Working knowledge of DTNA or TBB Engineering Documentation systems.
  • Working 3D design experience (NX or CREO– electrical design)
