About The Position

As a Senior Aerospace Mechanical Systems Engineer, you and your team will be responsible for the design, integration, testing, and certification of mechanical systems for our next-generation GB2 aircraft. This role focuses on aircraft systems including fuel, hydraulic, environmental control, landing gear, braking, flight control actuation, and other mechanical subsystems across both production and development programs. This position includes ownership of system-level architecture, analysis, validation, and certification activities in accordance with 14 CFR Part 23 requirements. The ideal candidate understands how mechanical systems integrate within the overall aircraft and how certification requirements flow down to subsystem and component levels.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with 14 CFR Part 23 certification standards for small fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Direct experience interfacing with the FAA or supporting FAA certification activities.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aerospace mechanical systems engineering (fuel, hydraulics, ECS, landing gear, flight controls, braking systems, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of system integration within small, fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software such as SolidWorks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in aircraft mechanical systems engineering.
  • Experience with composite aircraft platforms.
  • Prior experience working at a general aviation OEM.
  • Experience supporting certification within an ODA environment.
  • Experience performing safety assessments (FHA, FMEA, SSA).
  • Experience supporting ground and flight test campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and integration of aircraft mechanical systems from concept through certification and production.
  • Perform system architecture development, trade studies, and detailed component selection.
  • Develop system schematics, installation layouts, and interface definitions.
  • Conduct system-level analyses including performance, loads, reliability, safety, and failure modes (FMEA/FHA).
  • Develop and author certification plans, compliance reports, ground and flight test plans, and substantiation documentation in accordance with FAA requirements.
  • Coordinate directly with the FAA and Aircraft Certification Office (ACO) regarding compliance findings and major change approvals.
  • Support test planning, ground testing, flight testing, and data analysis activities.
  • Maintain engineering change documentation and configuration control.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with structures, avionics, production, and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Work closely with DERs/DARs and within ODA structures (if applicable) to drive certification efforts.
  • Utilize SolidWorks (or equivalent 3D CAD tools) to develop installation models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
