About The Position

Flock Safety is the leading safety technology platform, helping communities thrive by taking a proactive approach to crime prevention and security. Our hardware and software suite connects cities, law enforcement, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods in a nationwide public-private safety network. Trusted by over 5,000 communities, 4,500 law enforcement agencies, and 1,000 businesses, Flock delivers real-time intelligence while prioritizing privacy and responsible innovation. We’re a high-performance, low-ego team driven by urgency, collaboration, and bold thinking. Working at Flock means tackling big challenges, moving fast, and continuously improving. It’s intense but deeply rewarding for those who want to make an impact. With nearly $700M in venture funding and a $7.5B valuation, we’re scaling intentionally and seeking top talent to help build the impossible. If you value teamwork, ownership, and solving tough problems, Flock could be the place for you. Flock Safety is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Aviation Engineering team. As we expand our Drone as First Responder (DFR) vertical, this role will be pivotal in bringing the design expertise needed to manufacture and deploy novel small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) at scale. You will work within the Airframes division to help develop custom mechanical components for our Alpha quadcopter platform. This is a high-impact role where you will bridge the gap between initial industrial design and scalable manufacturing, ensuring our drones are rugged, reliable, and capable of supporting critical public safety missions. From vibration mitigation and gimbal design to cross-functional integration with docks and payloads, you will be at the heart of our hardware innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven track record in mechanical design, ideally within the aerospace or robotics industry.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Solidworks and experience with Solidworks PDM and GD&T standards.
  • Background in designing for manufacturing (DFM) in complex, multi-subsystem assemblies (200+ parts).
  • Experience designing for plastic injection molded manufacturing, including draft angles, wall thickness, and gate placement.
  • Experience running rigorous test plans and analyzing test data to iterate on mechanical designs.
  • Deep understanding of vibration damping and mitigation in high-frequency environments for flight controllers, gimbals, or sensitive electronics.
  • Experience in high-growth environments; you are flexible, act like a "first responder," and are willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Comfortable collaborating with remote cross-functional teams across time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Arena integration for PLM.
  • Experience with quadcopter development (professional preferred, but high-level hobbyist experience is valued).
  • Experience with electronics packaging and managing thermal/mechanical constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our current aircraft manufacturing process
  • Demonstrate a high-level understanding of quadcopter subsystems and complete all required technical and cultural onboarding.
  • Begin contributing to mechanical design by developing assembly drawings for production handoff.
  • Work with Airframes peers and cross-functional groups to refine design philosophy
  • Manage relationships with teams to ensure seamless mechanical integration between the aircraft and its base station/sensors.
  • You will be fully confident in your ability to lead design efforts for our next-generation airframes while maintaining strict CAD and PDM standards.
  • Apply key learnings from your time on the manufacturing floor (working with Operations) to our production aircraft, ensuring our designs are optimized for scale and reliability.
