About The Position

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician supports the Fairview Energy Center, a world-class combined cycle facility featuring advanced GE Frame 7HA.02 Gas Turbine technology, playing a key role in maintaining high-efficiency and reliable power generation systems. This position provides hands-on responsibility for troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing critical mechanical and balance-of-plant equipment, while supporting outage execution and condition-based maintenance programs. The role works closely with Operations, Maintenance, and OEM partners to enhance plant performance, reliability, and safety in a technically advanced, team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience in power-generating facility maintenance, preferably as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or in an equivalent role supporting combined cycle or similar industrial facilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of power plant operations, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs, with the ability to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support inspection of mechanical systems and balance-of-plant equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSG components, and related systems.
  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and regulatory compliance, with demonstrated adherence to procedures such as LOTO, confined space entry, and high-energy isolation to ensure safe and reliable maintenance execution.
  • Proficient in assembling, disassembling, adjusting, and aligning mechanical equipment, with experience using precision measuring tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop/fabrication tools such as drill presses, milling machines, welding equipment, and rigging systems.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting meters, gauges, and instrumentation to monitor operating conditions—including temperature, vibration, pressure, fluid levels, and water chemistry—and utilizing data to support condition-based maintenance and reliability improvements.
  • Strong team player with proven ability to collaborate on maintenance activities, share technical knowledge, and oversee contractors or OEM technicians to ensure work meets safety, quality, and technical standards.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills for coordinating with Operations and Maintenance teams, documenting work in CMMS, and accurately reporting equipment status and maintenance activities.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance or instrumentation and control is beneficial, though not required. Relevant industry or military experience may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the plant’s preventive, routine, and predictive maintenance programs by performing scheduled tasks, utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and collecting and analyzing condition monitoring data (e.g., vibration, temperature, oil analysis) to improve reliability and support operational decisions.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical equipment issues, applying timely and effective resolutions.
  • Maintain, repair, and overhaul plant mechanical systems and components, including pumps, valves, fans, gearboxes, compressors, gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSG components, and balance-of-plant equipment. Support planned shutdowns and inspections, including coordination with OEM service providers, by inspecting equipment, diagnosing issues, and performing tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with team members to execute maintenance tasks, share knowledge, and enhance overall plant performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Assist in developing and refining preventive maintenance procedures to ensure they are comprehensive and effective.
  • Coordinate and schedule outage-related mechanical work, ensuring efficient resource allocation and minimal operational disruption.
  • Utilize machine shop tools (where applicable) to perform precision maintenance tasks such as alignment, balancing, and component repair.
  • Support plant operations by ensuring mechanical equipment readiness and responding to issues in coordination with Operations personnel, in compliance with plant procedures.
  • Install piping, conduit, and related components to support plant system upgrades and modifications.
  • Read and interpret meters, gauges, and instrumentation to monitor operating conditions, including temperature, vibration, pressure, fluid levels, and water chemistry.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and plant documentation, including operating manuals, technical references, diagrams, and maintenance records, to ensure reliability and accessibility.
  • Oversee contractors and OEM technicians to ensure work is executed safely, meets technical specifications, and aligns with plant and manufacturer standards.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to plant operations.

Benefits

  • This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $40 to $48 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.
