About The Position

The Mechanical Intern supports the mechanical engineering team by assisting with the design and analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems for building projects. This role provides exposure to industry design standards, energy efficiency, and system coordination within multi-disciplinary projects.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering or related program.
  • Completion of coursework in HVAC, thermodynamics, or building systems.
  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering and building systems.
  • Awareness of HVAC design principles and sustainability standards.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or energy modeling tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to support multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to learn design software and tools quickly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
  • Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling software.
  • Involvement in ASHRAE or similar professional/student organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing mechanical drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Support system load calculations, equipment selection, and energy analysis.
  • Conduct research on codes, standards, and sustainability practices.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections as assigned.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers on integrated building systems.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with clients and colleagues including cross-functional teams, peers, direct reports, and leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Adapt to changing business needs and priorities, demonstrating flexibility in taking on new responsibilities and adjusting to evolving challenges.
