About The Position

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support a team of engineers and designers working on rotorcraft modification and alteration activities. This internship provides hands-on exposure to aircraft design, structural analysis, and engineering documentation while working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Aeronautical Engineering (junior or senior standing preferred)
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems; exposure to propulsion systems or rotorcraft concepts is a plus
  • Basic awareness of FAA certification concepts (14 CFR Part 21, 29, and 43) is helpful but not required
  • Coursework or hands-on experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical team members
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Responsibilities

  • Assist with structural analysis of metallic and composite components using hand calculations and basic FEA tools (e.g., NASTRAN), under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Support the development of new design concepts related to aircraft modifications and alteration projects
  • Create, update, and maintain engineering models and drawings using SolidWorks
  • Assist engineering and maintenance teams by updating documentation to reflect maintenance improvements, part number changes, or service experience
  • Help coordinate and track design issues with internal teams and external suppliers
  • Research material specifications, part standards, and regulatory documentation to support engineering activities
  • Participate in design reviews, team meetings, and technical discussions to gain exposure to real-world engineering workflows
