About The Position

Americas Residential, a division of ASSA ABLOY is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to work in our headquarter office in Lake Forest, CA. This role will offer you the opportunity to be a part of a global company and a market leader in faucets, fixtures and locks. Must be available to work onsite in our Lake Forest office 3 days a week for our hybrid schedule – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Will be remote Mondays and Fridays.   Primary Duties and Responsibilities (20%) Assist in executing design engineering activities for multiple projects and priorities. (10%) Assist in designing components and/or sub-assemblies using Creo Parametric 4.0. (10%) Use analytic software and/or prototypes to demonstrate product feasibility and have a basic understanding of GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing). (5%) Work with suppliers and/or manufacturing to develop new or enhance existing components and assemblies. (30%) Assist in writing test plans and work with lab technicians to complete required testing. (10%) Develop, maintain and complete engineering documentation, i.e. design layouts, bill of material (BOM), detail and assembly drawings and engineering change documents as required. (10%) Assist in providing designs that incorporate a basic knowledge of customer service requirements, end user needs and manufacturing requirements. (5%) Assist Quality and Value Engineers on different types of projects.

Requirements

  • Must be 3rd or a 4th year Mechanical Engineering student (required).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team, with a proactive and positive attitude.
  • Fundamental understanding of design process, component design, and manufacturing processes (injection molding, die casting, and stamping).
  • Working knowledge and curiosity of mechanisms and mechanism design.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of course in Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials and Machine Design is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Creo 4.0 preferred. Familiarity with Mechanism and Creo Simulate 4.0 is a plus.
  • The ability to collaboratively work within a team environment and consistently make contributions to help the team reach their objectives.
  • Knowledge of MS Project is a plus.
