A brighter future is possible with you . Job Summary Join a hands‑on engineering team driving real mission impact - an internship where you’ll solve problems, build tech, and grow fast. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2026 (May 18 – early Aug) . This position is 100% onsite located in Columbus, Ohio . The application deadline is March 12, 2026. The Defense & Materials Solutions group is made up of engineers, designers, technicians, scientists and analysts contracted by the US Government to develop unique solutions to design challenges that often border on the impossible. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary teams that we form around each project. Our team-based approach means you will work side-by-side with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Materials Scientists and other disciplines needed for each project under time and budget restrictions to deliver specialized equipment for a variety of government and commercial customers. Your coworkers will range from other co-ops and new graduates all the way to those with 30+ years of experience. The unique backgrounds and work experiences brought by each team member lends diversity to the development process, which results in both product innovation as well as an engaging work environment. The successful candidate is curious and creative in problem solving and self-motivated to execute tasks and report on their status. She/he are expected to persistently pursue the best solution to technical challenges through application of their own skills and by seeking and leveraging the inputs of collaborators.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Foundational understanding of engineering principles through coursework (e.g., circuits, mechanics, programming, systems concepts, modeling, or design).
  • Ability to work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical ideas clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, processes, and technologies.
  • Must be sole US citizen with ability to obtain government security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to systems engineering concepts, such as requirements, architecture, modeling, or test planning through coursework or projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead requirements development and system architecture definition, ensuring alignment with technical baselines, mission needs, and DoD engineering processes.
  • Integrate multidisciplinary efforts across mechanical, electrical, software, modeling, and logistics teams to deliver cohesive system solutions.
  • Plan and support verification, validation, and risk management activities, contributing to test strategies, trade studies, and program decision-making.
