SUMMARY: The Mechanical Engineering Intern role will have a mix of independent tasks as well as work with a mentor to contribute to more complex engineering deliverables. This position will be expected to work cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines and organizations within the company, such as product development, manufacturing, and service. REPORTING TO/DEPARTMENT: Reports to the Group Lead, Mechanical Design in the Mechanical Engineering department

Requirements

  • Must be a self-starter and eager to take on challenges
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Basic Mechanical Engineering or equivalent courses completed (machine design, CAD, etc). Suitable work experience in a technically related field may be considered in lieu of formal education
  • Good computer skills, including the use of standard office software programs including spreadsheets, word-processing, and email applications
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • To qualify for this position, candidates must be able to furnish proof that they are authorized to work in the country they are applying on a permanent basis without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a mechanical CAD package such as SolidWorks
  • Exposure to working with mechanical design through coursework or other equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical tools, as well as some familiarity with manufacturing techniques that may be utilized to fabricate prototype components
  • Familiarity with the use of engineering tools such as version control and defect tracking systems

Responsibilities

  • With direction from an engineering mentor: research, plan, design, and document mechanical designs in accordance with product requirements.
  • Designs may include detailed custom design and higher-level assemblies integrating custom and off-the-shelf components
  • Assist in lifecycle value improvement engineering tasks which include designing and testing reliability improvements to existing designs
  • Collaborate with technicians and other engineers to create, test, and release prototypes
  • Test and integrate designs into the system, in collaboration with engineering mentors and technicians
