About The Position

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will gain hands‑on experience supporting mechanical maintenance and reliability activities in a chemical manufacturing environment. This role is designed for mechanical engineering students seeking real‑world exposure to rotating equipment, piping systems, and maintenance execution within a continuous process plant. The intern will work closely with experienced maintenance and engineering professionals to observe and support shop and field activities while developing an understanding of how mechanical systems support safe, reliable chemical operations.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and assist with mechanical maintenance shop and field activities, including fabrication, pipefitting, welding, and mechanical assembly
  • Support field removal and installation of piping systems and rotating equipment
  • Assist with maintenance activities involving pumps, seals, couplings, bearings, and other mechanical components, including: Pump assembly and disassembly Seal removal and replacement Equipment replacements
  • Support maintenance planners and engineers during post‑job reviews, including review of work execution, scope accuracy, and job plans
  • Participate in root cause analysis efforts to identify why work was delayed, incomplete, or unable to be executed as designed
  • Develop an understanding of mechanical equipment criticality and reliability within a chemical plant
  • Assist in other areas of the jobsite as business needs require
  • Follow all plant safety, environmental, and operational procedures
