About The Position

The Shippensburg University's Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position effective August 2026 to teach in our mechanical engineering undergraduate program. We welcome applicants at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank is commensurate with qualifications including prior teaching, research and professional experience. The candidate must be able to teach at least four of the following undergraduate courses: Mechanical Design & Methodology Machine Dynamics Fluid Flow Manufacturing Processes Engineering Materials and Mechatronics Please see the course catalog at the following link for additional courses and course descriptions,Shippensburg University The position requires interest in mentoring undergraduate engineering students through active advising, extra-curricular groups to include participation in various competitions such as the SAE Baja and Student Design Competitions. The candidate will also engage in the ABET accreditation process and help lead the effort to earn accreditation for this program. In addition, faculty members are expected to perform other duties as assigned in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement. About the Department: The Civil and Mechanical Engineering Department was established in 2018 as part of the Morgan School of Engineering. The school also includes Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, and Computer Science. The department includes a newly established Milton and Doreen Morgan Engineering Lab building which includes twelve civil and mechanical engineering labs equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The Mechanical and Civil Engineering programs have been ABET accredited since 2023. Requirements

  • Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering field by the time of the appointment.
  • Candidates must have appropriate qualifications to supervise student design and capstone projects.
  • As part of a successful on-campus interview process, candidates will be expected to provide a demonstration of teaching effectiveness and evidence of understanding diverse populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering in the state of Pennsylvania or ability to obtain the license in two years.
  • Familiarity and experience with ASME or SAE design competitions (Baja, Formula, or Aero Design) and ability to lead student engineering clubs.
  • Three years of teaching experience at college undergraduate level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach at least four of the following undergraduate courses: Mechanical Design & Methodology, Machine Dynamics, Fluid Flow, Manufacturing Processes, Engineering Materials and Mechatronics
