NIKA is hiring for a Mechanical Engineer (Junior Level) to support the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Engineering (ENG) Division in San Antonio, TX. This role allows for remote work with travel to DHA facilities as needed. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Develops, specifies, evaluates, monitors, and analyzes maintenance procedures, services, performance requirements, and projects involving specific mechanical building infrastructure systems unique to military medical healthcare facilities. Responsibilities include ensuring that facility systems are designed, installed, operated efficiently, and maintained as needed to meet facility safe and efficient operational requirements; and are in compliance with government developed instructions/criteria and industry established standards, statutes and codes. Performs functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of systems delivered through the point-by-point verification of design, installation, functionality and performance of existing and newly installed mechanical infrastructure equipment and systems. Provides advice at a technical engineering level on compliance and quality management to Facilities Enterprise Engineering Branch in the maintenance and repair of building mechanical systems which include building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; potable and non-potable water distribution systems; sanitary sewer; and plumbing systems. Evaluate proposed projects and technical solutions based on need, code compliance, effectiveness, and life cycle cost. Answer technical Requests for Information (RFIs) in accordance with codes, regulations, and DHA policy and procedures. Travel to sites to investigate open requirement packages and conduct detailed inspections of existing conditions of equipment, evaluate the effectiveness of current maintenance procedures, and confirm the use of correct operational practices. Provide a comprehensive and formal travel report detailing the observations, findings, and recommendations conveyed in a technical manner that remains consumable by a non-engineer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated minimum of one (1) year practical experience in the design/construction field.
  • Practical experience is defined as having the direct responsibility for execution of design, construction, major repair, or management of mechanical infrastructure systems. This practical experience must be recent, within the past six (6) months and span over the preceding twelve (12) out of eighteen (18) months.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Ability to obtain security clearance is required
  • Travel approximately 6-12 times per year

  • Multifaceted skills and extensive practical experience in the mechanical trade discipline necessary to accurately analyze plans, data, designs, operations and maintenance practices and the management thereof.
  • Possess those skills necessary to facilitate the development of estimates and makes recommendations for repairs, sustainment, and optimizations of building infrastructure systems.
  • Knowledgeable of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
