About The Position

As a Mechanical Design Engineer supporting the Autonomous Maritime Platforms business, you will be part of a cross-functional engineering team responsible for the design, development, and integration of advanced autonomous subsea vehicles and systems. This role focuses on taking mechanical designs from concept through prototype and production, supporting mission-critical solutions for defense and national security customers.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, OR Master’s degree plus 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Knowledge of autonomous and unmanned undersea vehicle (AUV/UUV) technologies, architectures, and operating principles.
  • Hands-on experience assembling, integrating, or testing prototype systems
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience developing designs from initial concept through production release
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous technical development and engineering best practices

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical engineering design of complex mechanical systems
  • Proficiency with:
  • SolidWorks (MCAD)
  • PTC Windchill (PDM)
  • Engineering experience in the undersea / subsea domain

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support mechanical systems for autonomous undersea vehicles and subsea platforms, from early concept through prototype build, test, and production.
  • Perform mechanical design and analysis of structures, housings, pressure vessels, frames, and mechanisms for autonomous and unmanned undersea vehicles (AUV/UUVs)
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using SolidWorks, including application of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
  • Manage and maintain engineering data within PTC Windchill, ensuring configuration control and design traceability
  • Translate system and customer requirements into detailed mechanical design solutions and component-level specifications
  • Support concept development, trade studies, and design optimization to balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost
  • Design components and assemblies to withstand undersea environmental conditions, including pressure, corrosion, shock, vibration, and thermal effects
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and integration, including hands-on troubleshooting and design refinement
  • Develop and execute test plans and procedures to validate mechanical designs during bench, lab, and in-water testing
  • Analyze test results, document findings, and implement design improvements or corrective actions
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, systems, manufacturing, and test engineering teams to ensure integrated vehicle performance
  • Interface with suppliers and manufacturing partners, supporting design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and supplier technical reviews
  • Prepare and support technical documentation, including design descriptions, reports, and materials for formal design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR)
  • Support transition of designs from R&D to production, including build support, issue resolution, and configuration updates
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, specifications, and quality requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and best practices

Benefits
