About The Position

The Mechanical Design subject matter expert will serve as the technical authority for the Advanced Programs team with a focus on mechanical part designs. The ME SME will lead complex mechanical design efforts, drive integration of structures, mechanisms, and ensure that designs meet performance, reliability, producibility, and cost targets. Our team operates at the forefront of technology, tasked with creating capabilities that do not yet exist. In this position you will collaborate closely with design teams to embed Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles into every mechanical‑engineering project. By applying extensive hands‑on machining experience and advanced engineering expertise, you will ensure that designs are cost‑effective, high‑quality, and suitable for high‑volume production while preserving performance and reliability. You will possess a strong grasp of NC machining programs and will continuously elevate design standards across both traditional and emerging manufacturing technologies.

Requirements

  • Perform detailed analysis of mechanical design data, including CAD models, drawings, CNC Programing. Occasionally you may lead design activities
  • Provide actionable feedback on geometry, tolerances, material selection, surface finishes, and feature sizing to reduce machining time, tooling wear, and scrap rates
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to develop and validate machining processes, tooling strategies, and fixture concepts
  • Expert level knowledge of CNC machining processes (milling, turning, drilling, grinding, EDM) and NC programming
  • Subject Matter Expert in geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience using, NX CAM or CATIA V5 and Machining work benches for NC program development using proper holding methods and cutter selection for various 5-axis machine tools
  • Experience with the machining of hard metallic materials that may be billet or Additively grown
  • Proven ability to efficiently manage multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines, prioritize workload, and maintain high-quality results under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently assess workload, establish personal priorities, and allocate time and resources effectively to meet deadlines and achieve objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate complex tasks that span multiple programs, aligning cross functional teams, managing inter program dependencies, and delivering results on schedule and within budget.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven proficiency in NC programming in an Aerospace or Automotive environment
  • Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Advanced fluency with CAD/CAM platforms (SolidWorks / Creo / CATIA, Mastercam, Siemens NX, PowerMILL, Fusion 360)
  • Proven track record of implementing DFM/DFA principles that reduced cost, cycle time, and scrap rates
  • Competence in using metrology software (CMM, laser scanning) for in process verification
