About The Position

This role is located in Port Aransas, Texas . This is a 12-month annual contract that will be renewable based on performance and funding. Only those authorized to work in the US will be considered. Purpose The mechanic/technician will be part of the Maintenance Crew that services our Marine Science Institute. The mechanic/technician will provide journey-level skills to perform work in a variety of trades required for the maintenance, repair, and operation of University facilities and equipment. Responsible for the fabrication, installation, operation, and routine or emergency maintenance and/or repair of University facilities. Performs journey-level work in a particular area of expertise assigned.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma
  • Building construction, mechanical or utilities trade specified; Journey-level experience
  • Driving Required This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on all air handlers, pumps, motors, eye wash stations, lighting, water filters and air filters
  • Operate all types of equipment needed for repair, installation or renovation of any project throughout all MSI buildings.
  • Provide repair to mechanical systems including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, light electrical and carpentry throughout all MSI campuses
  • Assists with severe weather preparations and evacuation, rigging emergency power and emergency generator testing.
  • Performs work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Responds to service calls, troubleshoots systems, equipment, valves, circuits, controls, panels and takes corrective action.
