About The Position

The Meat & Seafood Field Specialist provides technical training and support to stores, helping them meet chain expectations in product quality, production flow, nutritional compliance, merchandising, and ordering procedures. This position requires some administrative support for the planning, development, and implementation of brand programs, pricing strategies, and merchandising/marketing programs within the Meat & Seafood departments. Additionally, this position may also work cross-functionally with store operations leadership to improve the financial performance of ‘target’ stores and enhance the execution of specific merchandising and procurement programs that support Natural Market’s financial objectives. The individual will have exceptional organizational skills and know how to prioritize work. There are many tasks to accomplish, most of which have strict, unmovable deadlines; thus, the individual will have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines successfully while not sacrificing the quality of the tasks performed.

Requirements

  • The individual must be able to identify current and future product trends and customer requirements.
  • They must have exceptional organizational skills, be able to multitask on various projects simultaneously, be a savvy thinker, be a team player, analyze the gross margin of all items and categories available for sale within the department, and design and build displays.
  • The employee must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the Meat department and product sourcing is essential.
  • Inventory management, shrinkage control, gross profit optimization, labor and supply expense management skills are all key to success in this position.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are also essential leadership skills required for success in this position.
  • Minimum of 3 years of retail meat/seafood industry experience with an expert level of skill sets in cutting and processing, product displays, inventory, and waste management required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, contracts, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • The individual must have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • The employee must also be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Additionally, they should be able to speak effectively before groups of individuals, including those from the industry, employees, and customers.
  • The individual must have excellent mathematics skills.
  • They must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • The employee must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • The individual must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • They must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, sets, and helps maintain the department schematics for the Meat & Seafood Department at each store.
  • Teaches and trains in various production processes and methods
  • Trains for the operation of the Meat & Seafood Departments' equipment and machinery
  • Mentors store staff on ordering acumen and writing orders that are consistent with department goals and standards, ensuring the highest level of product availability.
  • Provides mentorship to department staff to achieve operational and merchandising excellence.
  • Partners with meat and seafood leadership teams and merchandising teams to quickly resolve issues impacting store operations, in-stock conditions, inventory, margin, waste, and department conditions.
  • Helps develop Meat & Seafood Department staff to fulfill the requirements of their respective roles within the department.
  • Works with Sr Category Manager & Merchandising Team to plan strategic holiday merchandising sets.
  • Assists in reviewing and correcting inventory reports for counting errors and irregularities, as well as accurate valuations.
  • Ensures that the ordering system and order guides are maintained and monitored.
  • Visits competitors' stores for benchmarking purposes and gathers potential new Merchandising ideas.
  • Assists in planning and coordination of new store openings and product launches.
  • Develops and recommends product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to the highest possible long-term market benefit.
  • Establishes and maintains a consistent corporate image throughout the merchandising, signing, and advertising efforts.
  • Coordinates branding effort by assisting with the direction and execution of brand marketing programs.
  • Evaluates and analyzes program results and presents recommendations for changes in marketing strategy.
  • Assists in the creation of marketing programs to build customer traffic and generate sales.
  • On occasion, I will attend trade shows to identify trends and procure products.
  • Where appropriate, interprets financial reports and identifies opportunities accordingly.
