About The Position

Under the supervision of the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Mathematics Adjunct Instructor is responsible for the implementation of curriculum in College Mathematics. This Mathematics Adjunct Instructor is responsible to prepare students for college/university level mathematics. The Mathematics Adjunct Instructor must create classes that are rigorous, pertinent, and meaningful for students. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage the student in critical thinking and problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Mathematics or Mathematics Education.
  • Two years’ experience instructing adults.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
  • The ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high sense of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate ability to work on a team.
  • Knowledge of Canvas
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Dedication to continuous professional development
  • Proficiency with educational technology and software

Responsibilities

  • Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps student’s problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
  • Prepare class syllabus in support of students achieving educational goals.
  • Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.
  • Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging amongst students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records through daily sign-in sheets.
  • Evening availability required and must be present for 100% of all scheduled classes.
  • Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
  • Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.
  • Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the Instituto College.
  • Utilizes technology and online resources to enhance teaching practices.
  • Motivates students to attend class, as measured by an acceptable rate of attendance and retention.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development training.
  • Other duties as assigned
