About The Position

The TEAS Instructor is responsible for the implementation of curriculum in secondary reading comprehension and writing. This instructor is responsible to prepare students to take and pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS Test), which will lead to admission into the Associate Degree in Nursing (RN) Program. Instructor must create classes that are rigorous, pertinent, and meaningful for students. In addition, the TEAS Instructor will be required to help students gain skills in the following areas: setting seminar goals and acquiring solid motivation, time management, test-taking skills, as well as studying tips.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree mandatory, Master’s preferred.
  • Two years’ experience instructing adults.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, Bilingual Spanish / English preferred.
  • Non-traditional, student-centered approaches to instruction with an ability to maintain cohesive, multi-level diverse groups; adaptable and responsive to Instructional Coaching.
  • Ability to maintain a high sense of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate ability to work on a team.
  • Exhibit professional courtesy in dealing with program participants, colleagues, team members, and the public.
  • Strong content knowledge in writing, reading, and/or ESL.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Experience with contextualized instruction.
  • Knowledge of college structure, systems, and processes.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office and Google applications.

Responsibilities

  • Implement high quality curriculum and instruction to increase students’ reading comprehension capabilities as well as English and language usage with the integration of research and evidence readings, identification of key ideas and details in areas such as vocabulary acquisition, language proficiency, and conventions of standard English language.
  • Prepare class syllabus in support of students achieving educational goals.
  • Regularly evaluate student progress utilizing quizzes, exams, or other type of qualitative or quantitative evaluation.
  • Deliver instruction to students using a variety of methods; adjust teaching styles to meet the needs of a diverse student population using adult learning theory/principles and content knowledge in writing, reading, math concepts, and science.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records through daily sign-in sheets.
  • Research and review curriculum; select materials for instructional delivery and evaluate alternative delivery methods of instruction.
  • Evening availability required and must present for 100% of all scheduled classes.
  • Motivate students to attend class, as measured by an acceptable rate of attendance and retention
  • Receive positive and acceptable student feedback in evaluations conducted at the end of the TEAS seminar session.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
