About this Role: The Math Teacher Lead (Coach) will play an integral role with implementation of mathematics lessons for rising 10th and 11th grade students within 2 summer high school programs: (a) Biomedical & Life Science Foundations, (b) BLI Computer Science. The Teacher Lead will provide periodic observation, modeling, and support during the summer program, and collaborate with the Director of STEM Pathways to assess this pilot and inform future program planning. You’ll be responsible for: Overseeing the implementation of mathematics curriculum using provided materials, (supplementing where necessary) to bolster student engagement and confidence towards mathematics. Observing and coaching teachers at least twice a week for 6 weeks in areas such as content knowledge, differentiated instruction, culturally relevant pedagogy, ability to build student knowledge/ skills, and classroom management skills. This may include modeling part of a lesson at times. Meeting with instructor & program team weekly to discuss instructional feedback and next steps Promoting high expectations and high support of both staff and students Refining assessments, reviewing formative and summative assessment data with Director of STEM Pathways, refining curriculum materials and plans as needed Providing training and professional development to instructors to support curriculum delivery, lesson planning and student engagement. About you: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics Education, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience Experience providing instructional coaching and support to other instructors Passionate about making a difference in the academic outcomes of students from underinvested communities Familiarity and experience with local public high schools and communities Student-centered educator who balances high expectations with high support to deliver engaging, rigorous, culturally relevant instruction Experience with differentiated instruction for heterogeneous classrooms Maintains open and consistent communication Dedicated to combating systemic racial and economic inequities through providing high quality education opportunities to students. Must be able to complete an I-9 employment verification form to work in the United States Strong orientation to customer service, particularly with regard to students, partners and colleagues Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and related applications, as well as use of general office equipment (phones, computers, copiers, etc) Fluency in the use of data and data systems. Maintains appropriate engagement with data entry, reporting and review. Must adhere to COVID safety guidelines as established by Heights and/or its partners. Office-based staff should be mindful of the organization’s strong recommendation that staff maintain up to date with COVID vaccination and boosters. Site-based staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must submit to any COVID testing or other health screenings as required by the Department of Human Services and/or the School District of Philadelphia. Must be able to work in a busy, often complex work environment that is generally climate controlled. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis.
