About The Position

MaineGeneral Health is a comprehensive non-profit system dedicated to enhancing the health of its patients, families, and communities. This exciting opportunity is for an experienced Maternity & Pediatrics Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Maternal/Child Health team at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta. The Maternity & Pediatrics department features a dynamic nursing team covering Labor & Delivery, Postpartum (mother/baby), Pediatrics, and the Level II Nursery. This position is scheduled for 30 hours per week on nights, requiring weekend, holiday, and on-call rotation. The typical schedule involves three 12-hour shifts one week and two 12-hour shifts the following week.

Requirements

  • Active Maine RN licensure or ability to obtain one in a timely fashion, required
  • At least 1 year of previous Med/Surg, Mother/Baby, Level II or Labor & Delivery RN experience is required
  • Excellent teamwork, communication and collaboration skills
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel.
  • May precept student nurses and new hires.
