Job Overview: The Materials Planner (Buyer) plays a critical role in ensuring a reliable, on-time flow of materials that keeps our customers, production lines, and service operations running seamlessly. In this dynamic distribution environment, you'll manage the full lifecycle of material planning-placing and maintaining purchase orders, optimizing supply, and partnering closely with suppliers to deliver quality materials when they're needed most. You will also drive engineering change coordination, enabling smooth, cost-effective transitions between parts while eliminating waste and minimizing operational disruption. Success in this role requires sharp analytical skills, proactive communication, and the ability to stay composed and decisive in a fast-paced setting. Working cross-functionally, you'll help solve supply chain challenges, enhance planning efficiency, and contribute to strategic initiatives such as a global SAP implementation. This role provides meaningful visibility across the organization and the opportunity to make a tangible, lasting impact on our global operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years experience working in a production / manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of purchasing experience and managing suppliers
  • 3+ years of experience in negotiating capabilities suppliers
  • 2+ years of experience in hitting cost reduction targets and project implementation
  • 2+ years of experience with MRP/ERP, JIT, or Kanban[AP1]
  • Solid understanding of purchasing, planning, operations, and quality control processes that drive supply chain performance.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple suppliers while maintaining accuracy and oversight across large SKU and part number portfolios.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to analyze data, build reports, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong capability in monitoring inventory health-identifying shortages, preventing stockouts, and ensuring operational and aftermarket readiness.
  • Experience owning key performance metrics, including FPSL (First Pass Service Level), PDBL (Past Due Backlog), and OTS (On-Time Shipments).
  • Strong mathematical skills paired with clear, effective written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage purchased parts and service parts requirements to meet production schedules and variable customer demand.
  • Place, maintain, and adjust purchase orders for raw materials, ensuring accurate data in the ERP system and timely updates to quantities, due dates, and order status.
  • Monitor inventory levels and material flow, making proactive decisions to release, cancel, or defer work based on demand, capacity, and production objectives.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, expedite or defer shipments as needed, and resolve issues impacting material supply.
  • Facilitate engineering changes (ECNs) by coordinating effectivity dates, updating bills of material, and managing inventory transitions to minimize scrap and cost impact.
  • Support cross-functional problem-solving, including Accounts Payable discrepancies, pricing issues, and supplier-related challenges.
  • Analyze and report planning data, preparing monthly and management reports to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Production Planning in meetings, communicating updates and ensuring alignment across operations, engineering, and supply chain teams.
