About The Position

The Material Management Specialist will work in the Main OR within St. Mary's Hospital in Athens GA. This role coordinates work processes for surgical services, which includes the acquisition, distribution, and the processing of supplies, equipment, instruments and services for the system. The specialist complies with hospital policies and supports the mission and values of the hospital.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge in computers.
  • Two years' experience in material/central processing functions, preferably in medical field.
  • A working knowledge of basic business and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good telephone and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Surgical technologist with two years supervisory experience in health care related field.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work processes for surgical services, which includes the acquisition, distribution, and the processing of supplies, equipment, instruments and services for the system.
  • Comply with hospital policies and support the mission and values of the hospital.
  • Assure that all purchase requests are correct and have the proper signatures.
  • Order all non-stock/stock products in a timely manner.
  • Monitor all back-orders to prevent stock outs.
  • Negotiate the best price on all purchase requests.
  • Utilize GPO contracts when possible with the assist of Project Manager.
  • Assist with and research invoice errors when requested by Accounts Payable.
  • Offer suggestions for improvement and contribute to the surgical Services Team.
  • Assist with and provide business office with proper invoices for OR, implants and supplies in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Coordinate work processes for material management specialist.
  • Assist with and facilitate training program for staff.
  • Minimize expenditures by identifying cost effective alternatives for purchasing equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with and utilize MM system to input stock/ non- stock products.
  • Interview vendor reps.
  • Introduce new product information to departments.
  • Maintain files in an up-to-date orderly fashion.
  • Research price discrepancies.
  • Negotiate best pricing for all purchases as well as follow up on all back- orders.
  • Responsible for and assist with inventory control program for Material/ Central Services.
  • Assist with and evaluate the effectiveness of cost containment program and inventory control as evidenced by monthly budget reports.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager in obtaining product information and acquisition of supplies.
  • Assist with and responsible for bill-only/s for all implant supplies.
