The Pueblo City-County Library District is now hiring a Materials Handling Technician, part-time 20 hours per week, to work at our Rawlings library! This position will generally work the afternoon/evening shifts. During the week, the library closes at 9:00 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, the library closes at 6:00 pm. The Materials Handling Technician helps to create a positive experience for all library customers by quickly and accurately shelving materials in their proper location and by maintaining shelves that are orderly, attractive and can be easily accessed. Who you will be working with: The Materials Handling Technician reports to the department manager. This position works closely with team members and may cross-train on other tasks to provide back-up support as needed. The position provides excellent customer service demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with people regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, ability level or background. What you will be doing: Creating positive experiences for customers by quickly and accurately processing materials and returning them to their designated locations in accordance with the Library's cataloging system. Moving book carts containing checked in and sorted material to the appropriate shelving area. Shelves books and other library materials quickly and accurately to their proper location. Maintaining shelves that are neat, orderly and inviting to customers. Promoting materials by front facing books, shifts shelves to keep them neat, reads shelves to ensure everything is in its proper place. Demonstrating interest in the condition of the collection by identifying and removing books and other materials in poor condition and brings them to the attention of the manager. Cleaning and making minor repairs to materials as needed. Using proper lifting techniques to pick up and move materials. Demonstrating facilitated customer service model by proactively approaching customers to offer assistance at the point of need. Assisting customers with finding library materials and providing information to broaden their awareness of library resources and services. Assisting customers with public computers, digital devices and electronic resources. Inspecting copy machines and printers periodically, cleans and adds paper as needed. Demonstrating knowledge and skill using Automated Materials Handling (AMH) equipment, hydraulic lifting equipment and Self-Service Check-out Stations including the ability to troubleshoot and resolve general software and equipment errors. Supporting team efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and staff by maintaining awareness of surroundings and working in accordance with safety policies and procedures. Participating in regularly scheduled department meetings. Attending All Staff Development Days and other training sessions to acquire new skills and to stay current on all information that is pertinent to PCCLD. Reading daily organizational communications from intranet, e-mail, newsletters and print announcements. Staying current on all library services, programs and events throughout the district. Regularly accesses electronic time keeping, payroll and personnel employee access systems. Depending on the department, you may also be: Assigned to regularly work with automated material handling (AMH) equipment and hydraulic lifting equipment Operates and monitors functions of the AMH equipment. Assigned to regularly remove materials from the book drop(s) and AMH bins for processing. Processing materials lists such as weeding and holds lists, removing materials from the shelves as required. Assisting customers with use of self-service check out stations. Packaging and sending out materials for binding or digital reformatting. Greet visitors, answer phones, and provide information for customers.
