About The Position

The Materials Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, expediting, and physically managing the flow of materials, components, and consumables to support production and shipping schedules. This role supports on‑time production and shipment by ensuring materials are available, accurately tracked, properly staged, and handled in accordance with quality and cleanroom requirements. The Materials Coordinator works closely with Production, Planning, and Shipping to translate schedules and priorities into timely material actions, identify material constraints, and support recovery activities to prevent production disruption.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing, materials coordination, or production support.
  • ERP/MRP experience required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of inventory management, material flow, and WIP control.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and traceability.
  • Ability to interpret schedules and adjust material actions to meet priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to use material handling equipment, inspection tools, and microscopes as required in a production environment.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of materials throughout the workday.
  • Fine motor skills and eye‑hand coordination required for handling fragile components and optics.
  • Regular use of microscopes, computers, and production equipment.
  • Medium physical demand classification, including lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Work performed in manufacturing, cleanroom, and production support environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience handling optical or precision components preferred.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom and ESD‑controlled environments.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and performs in‑plant movement of materials to support continuous flow and changing production priorities.
  • Issues, allocates, and transacts materials to work orders using the ERP/MRP system.
  • Ensures proper handling, staging, and packaging of critical and fragile optical components.
  • Facilitates accurate and timely material handoff from production to shipping, ensuring required inventory and quality documentation is complete.
  • Supports execution of production, repair, and rework schedules by aligning material availability with established priorities.
  • Analyzes on‑hand inventory, open orders, and work‑in‑process (WIP) to identify shortages, constraints, or misalignments.
  • Partners with supervisors and planners to develop recovery plans for overdue or constrained material.
  • Develops schedule forecasts to support new product introductions and anticipated order spikes.
  • Ensures repair and rework units are organized and prioritized on the production floor according to the active schedule.
  • Manages inventory levels of consumables supporting cleanroom, manufacturing, and chemical processes.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy and lot traceability through disciplined ERP/MRP transactions and physical material controls.
  • Supports cycle count activities and assists in investigating and resolving inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensures system data accurately reflects physical material status to support production execution.
  • Utilizes customer shipment portals to schedule deliveries, update shipment status, generate shipment documentation, and support order processing.
  • Coordinates with Shipping to ensure material readiness aligns with outbound shipment commitments.
  • Maintains 5S standards within inventory storage, staging, and material handling areas.
  • Develops and maintains documentation and procedures related to material flow and inventory processes.
  • Participates in lean and continuous improvement activities focused on improving flow, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Proactively identifies material risks and escalates issues that may impact production or shipment commitments.
  • Follows all safety, cleanroom, and ESD procedures to ensure safe handling of materials, tools, and optical components.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support operational objectives.
