About The Position

Step into a day dedicated to metals, microscopes, and meaningful results You clock in and power up the SEM. A fracture surface under the stereoscope tells a story you capture and document. You polish and etch a specimen, then photograph its microstructure with a photomicroscope—or coordinate with imaging support to produce the perfect photomicrograph. Between samples, you run a quick chemical analysis, audit a product lot, and close the loop with a concise report the production team can act on.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from a two‑year college/technical school, or a comparable blend of education and experience.
  • Hands-on experience operating a scanning electron microscope and a stereoscope.
  • Background in a laboratory setting performing similar work.
  • Comfort with computers and common operating systems.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and test metallic samples using a scanning electron microscope and/or stereoscope to assess physical properties and microstructural features.
  • Measure strength, hardness, elasticity, toughness, and other properties; record and document fracture surfaces.
  • Prepare specimens through polishing and etching; capture images with a photomicroscope or direct technical photography personnel to take, develop, and mount photomicrographs.
  • Perform chemical analyses on parts to support material verification and investigations.
  • Conduct audits and product tests to verify conformance.
  • Draft clear, simple reports summarizing test methods, observations, and results.
