About The Position

E Ink Corporation is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and hands-on Senior Scientist for Materials Characterization & Analysis in the R&D team. You will lead the development of new techniques to investigate and understand our material properties and processes. Success in this role requires deep knowledge to identify key methods, interpret testing data, and connect it to product performance, as well as a breadth of experience across various materials. You will be working in a cross-functional group and solve technical challenges that will have direct impact to the next generation of our products to achieve advanced performance in electrophoretic displays.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in materials science, polymer science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field and 5+ years industry experience.
  • Demonstrated record of independent technical leadership in materials characterization for dispersions, polymers, thin films, coatings, and their processes- including selection, development, and validation of methods to solve complex R&D problems.
  • Advanced expertise in at least one major characterization domain- interfacial, mechanical, or chemical, with strong working knowledge across multiple others including microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal, and electrical methods.
  • Proven ability to interpret and draw conclusions from ambiguous or conflicting data to translate results into actionable guidance for water-based, solvent-based, or UV-curable formulations and processes.
  • Evidence of driving projects from initiation to conclusion, through accurate issue definition, root cause analysis methods, design of experiments, and statistical analysis, for data-driven problem solving.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated team-player.
  • Goal-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent Creative problem solver, innovative, and committed to continuous learning.

Responsibilities

  • Own the development of characterization techniques for materials and processes used in polymeric thin film coatings, colloidal dispersions, and UV-curable formulations, to connect to device performance.
  • Institute in-process quality control metrics for critical-to-function items during technology transfer to pilot and production.
  • Establish process-structure-property relationships through fundamental mechanism studies, design of experiments, and statistical analysis, to guide R&D formulation.
  • Build theories to explain colloid and coating behavior through characterization of surface, interfacial, bulk, and processing properties, including physical, chemical, and electrical considerations.
  • Explore new methods available externally, collaborate with global E Ink analytical labs and production sites, and enhance in-house instrumentation.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, and work safely in the lab adhering to EH&S best practices.
