As a Metal Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of structural metals used in construction and industrial projects. You will apply advanced inspection and non-destructive testing techniques to evaluate materials, support project execution from planning through reporting, and contribute directly to quality assurance and client confidence. Through coordination, technical expertise, and mentorship, this role delivers measurable impact by protecting structural integrity, supporting regulatory compliance, and advancing testing capabilities across projects of varying complexity. This position may require working 50+ hours per week (during periods of peak workload), as well as off-shift and weekend work, as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • A fluent understanding of how to read structural engineering prints and steel fabrication shop drawings
  • Education: Vocational training in non-destructive metals testing services or an associate degree in civil engineering technology, a plus
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on metals inspection experience
  • Certifications/Professional Licensure-Registrations: Achieved Level II per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least four methods

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform Advanced Metals Inspections: Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (UT, MT, and occasional RT) on structural steel, welds, connections, coatings, and fireproofing to verify code and quality compliance.
  • Manage Testing Equipment & Quality Systems: Maintain field and lab equipment inventories, manage calibration records, and support quality audits, proficiency testing, and new testing procedures.
  • Coordinate Testing Activities: Schedule and oversee metals testing assignments, supervise technicians as needed, and apply quality control protocols to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Develop & Deliver Technical Training: Complete advanced technical and safety training while mentoring junior technicians and maintaining training documentation.
  • Support Business Development & Reporting: Prepare inspection reports, assist with proposals and bids for small- to medium-sized projects, and support client engagement under senior guidance.
