About The Position

Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is seeking a high-performing, collaborative entry or associate level Materials and Processes Metallurgical Engineer to join our team located in Hazelwood, MO. The ideal candidate will be responsible for qualifying and implementing new standard mechanical parts such as fasteners, bushings/bearings, and fluid fittings onto our production aircraft programs and will have a mechanical or assembly engineering background. The selected candidate will join a high-performing, experienced team with strong mentorship in support of multiple defense programs and will report to the Materials and Process Technology team within the BDS organization. The position offers a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities including specification authoring and maintenance, production support to St. Louis military aircraft programs (F-15 and F/A-18) for metals engineering and sustaining program and spares support. The position will be responsible for supporting processes and technologies on these programs including engineering drawing/producibility reviews, raw material and process qualification, casting and forging pre-production approvals, and provide processing expertise for metallic production techniques including extrusions, machining, welding, hot forming and superplastic forming. The successful candidate will be: energetic; driven; able to work independently and in a team; able to lead completion of assignments and special projects. The candidate will possess a working knowledge in metallurgy principals for titanium, aluminum and steel. Familiarity with design concepts and techniques related to aircraft assembly and part fabrication, laboratory equipment, analysis methods and material qualification is desirable.

Requirements

  • Current Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.
  • This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in metallurgical, welding, or material science engineering
  • Experience with the development and maintenance of engineering material and/or process specifications
  • Experience with aerospace engineering drawings or models
  • Experience with Parts, Materials and Processes engineering in Aerospace industry
  • working knowledge in metallurgy principals for titanium, aluminum and steel.
  • Familiarity with design concepts and techniques related to aircraft assembly and part fabrication, laboratory equipment, analysis methods and material qualification

Responsibilities

  • Author and revise material and process specifications
  • Support non-conformance dispositions and repair methods, fleet impact assessments, notice of escapes
  • Qualify suppliers to metallic material, fabrication processes and specifications
  • Conduct failure analysis, lead quality and process improvements or initiatives
  • Interface with government, external and internal customers
  • Review and approve documents and engineering drawings for producibility, materials and processes requirements
  • Perform production acceptance and qualification of materials
  • Production and development support of Boeing St. Louis aircraft programs
  • Assist in evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application and implementation
