About The Position

A Material Planner is responsible for the day-to-day planning of material and products utilized by customers for assigned accounts. This includes regularly interacting with suppliers, managing inventory levels, and coordinating with the Commodity Managers who are focused on the strategic purchasing for the company. A Material Planner also works closely with the Customer Service and Program Management teams to manage the flow of inventory and to ensure products are available to ship to assigned customer accounts in a timely manner. This role provides employees with an opportunity to develop their skills in an industry & company with unique characteristics (e.g. vendor managed inventory). Employees in this role will interact with multiple areas and levels of the business in varying capacities. This is not a supervisory role, but top performers in this position may be eligible for growth opportunities within the Supply Chain team and beyond.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of inventory turns, including how they are calculated, and the importance of increased inventory turns 2
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel & Word, including ability to do VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables in Excel
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and completeness while meeting deadlines
  • Self-directed and possesses a high level of productivity and personal organization
  • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and interpersonal
  • Customer-centric attitude and a desire to grow with & contribute to a customer focused organization
  • Adapts to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs
  • Plans and organizes tasks & work responsibilities to achieve goals and objectives
  • Interacts with people effectively. Able and willing to share & receive information while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Uses sound judgment to make good decisions based on information gathered and analyzed
  • Displays emotional resilience and the ability to withstand pressure on an on-going basis
  • 3+ years of related experience in a material planning role
  • Bachelor’s degree (or pursuit of) in business-related field, preferably concentrating in Supply Chain or Purchasing

Responsibilities

  • Process and work inventory management reporting tools including, but not limited to: Process Purchase Order Reports, Open Purchase Order Reports, and Quarantine Reports on a weekly basis
  • Responsible for issuing purchase orders to the supply base manually
  • Effective management of the open order report, ensuring system updates with accurate information for all orders
  • Manage elevated expedite orders and coordinate with the appropriate personnel to ensure minimal supply chain interruption
  • Coordinate with Customer Service Representatives and Program Managers on inventory issues for assigned accounts such as excess and obsolete material, fluctuation in forecast, customer obligations or issues, inventory turns, days on hand, exceptions, etc.
  • Review new part number set ups for accuracy related to planning
  • Responsible for management of replenishment methods related to part number set ups
  • Coordinate with Supplier Quality team internally to work through non-conforming material concerns to ensure minimal impact to the customer
  • Communicate and coordinate with Quality Assurance and Operations to ensure material is available to support customer requirements
  • Active participation with the supply base to develop relationships and involvement in the Supplier Quarterly Business Reviews
