About The Position

The Material Handling Specialist is responsible for handling all materials from inbound shipping and receiving to the production line. This role requires the safe operation of forklifts and other material-handling equipment to support production and operational needs. Key aspects of the role include operating large forklifts or overhead cranes, loading/unloading materials, feeding slit ribbon material into stamping dies, performing first piece inspections, and conducting routine quality control functions such as measuring thickness, gauge, width, and coating. The specialist also monitors and adjusts production equipment coolant and oil levels. The position emphasizes safety, quality, productivity, dependability, and initiative, requiring professional interaction with co-workers, vendors, and customers. Requirements

  • Must have an outstanding safety record.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • High School Diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers and management regarding work and safety issues.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to comprehend job training and safety instructions.
  • PC skills required.
  • Forklift Certified.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, use micrometer, and calipers.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all materials from inbound shipping and receiving and production line.
  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to support production and operational needs.
  • Operate large forklifts or overhead cranes (with proper training) to load/unload master coils or other materials from rail cars and /or trucks.
  • Load/unload slit ribbon material on production line decoilers as defined by the steel loading process.
  • Correctly feed slit ribbon material into the stamping dies and perform first piece inspection.
  • Perform routine quality control functions on materials (i.e. thickness, gauge, width, and coating measurements).
  • Monitor production equipment coolant and oil levels and adjust accordingly.
  • Attend work during the regularly scheduled shift.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Be present at work, arrive on time and be at the work station ready for work at the start of the shift.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in safety training and meetings.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area.
  • Report all injuries/accidents near misses immediately to supervisor or a member of management.
  • Report on all unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Use equipment and materials properly.
