About The Position

Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio is hiring a Material Handler to join their team at the Cleveland outlet store. In this vital role, the Material Handler will be at the heart of Goodwill's mission, handling donated materials and ensuring they are properly processed for sale. Responsibilities include moving donated goods, salvage commodities, refuse, equipment, and other materials on and off trucks, sorting items into designated locations, and supporting all areas of the salvage sorting process. This position offers excellent cross-training opportunities to expand skills across multiple store functions. Requirements

  • Ability to operate all tipping equipment - must be age 18 or older
  • Ability to use all appropriate safety PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and follow safety protocols
  • Knowledge of different shades and tones of color
  • Knowledge of merchandise across a variety of categories
  • Ability to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Process donations efficiently: Sort and prepare quality donations for sale in the store while meeting established production goals
  • Maintain merchandising standards: Assist with stock rotation and keep shelves and displays presentable and organized
  • Handle data entry: Use computer software to input cash amounts and maintain accurate customer records
  • Support team development: Assist store leadership with training new personnel
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety: Maintain a clean work environment through sweeping and cleaning; adhere to all safety practices, procedures, and policies
  • Perform material handling duties: Manually move materials, or use hand trucks and pallet jacks to handle items on the dock, within the facility, and in exterior store areas
  • Track diversion metrics: Weigh and record Gaylords, containers, and hoppers to monitor diversion pounds
  • Provide customer service: Provide appropriate and helpful customer service on the outlet floor
  • Manage loading/unloading: Load and unload trailers at the loading dock
  • Handle waste disposal: Place trash in proper containers, move containers to designated locations (including outdoor areas), and operate the compactor
