About The Position

This position reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for handling, moving, and storing materials. The Material Handler will coordinate with the Lead Welder, Machine Shop Lead Operator, and Procurement Manager for various tasks including setting up weld stations, moving completed weldments, ensuring clear aisles, handling large pipes and tubes, bringing materials to saw areas, transporting finished materials, correcting inventory records, ensuring proper material tagging, and maintaining an organized production storage lot. Additionally, the role involves general shop maintenance tasks such as garbage collection, scrap separation, cardboard breakdown, and forklift cleaning. The scope of responsibility covers the Weld and Machine shop areas with secondary assistance in the assembly area.

Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience operating a forklift or heavy machinery in a manufacturing, distribution, logistics, military, or related environment preferred
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • The ability to obtain and retain proper forklift/industrial vehicle license requirements
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • The ability to work successfully with a diverse workforce
  • A strong work ethic to work independently with accuracy
  • Basic computer skills
  • Acute attention to working safely and maintaining a safe work environment

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years’ experience operating a forklift or heavy machinery in a manufacturing, distribution, logistics, military, or related environment

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Lead Welder each day for setting up each weld station with material for the next production day by area by COB
  • Coordinate with the Lead Welder each day for moving completed weldments to next process location
  • Coordinate with the Lead Welder each day for ensuring all in aisles are free of in process materials
  • Coordinate with the Lead Welder each day for moving all large pipe and tube in and out of the building utilizing the material handling trailers and the overhead cranes
  • Coordinate with the Machine Shop Lead Operator for bringing required materials to the saw areas one day prior to need
  • Coordinate with the Machine Shop Lead Operator for transporting finished materials to the next process location or to intermediate storage
  • Coordinate with the Machine Shop Lead Operator for ensuring the machine shop aisles are free of in process material
  • Working closely with the Procurement Manager for correcting inventory record accuracy
  • Working closely with the Procurement Manager for ensuring all material moved has a part number tag correctly filled out
  • Working closely with the Procurement Manager for maintaining production storage lot in a very organized and clean manner
  • Ensuring 100% of all material in the production lot is accounted for, labeled/tagged, and managed
  • Help to verify incoming shipments and paperwork for accuracy
  • Every Monday and Thursday afternoon prior to close of business gather and empty all garbage cans in the shop using the designated self tipping hopper
  • Daily separate and empty all scrap containers into the respective recycle dumpsters
  • Breakdown all cardboard terminal box containers and take them to the cardboard recycle area
  • Clean and wash the new forklift every Thursday afternoon prior to close of business
  • Other duties as required
