A Material Handler is commonly expected to know how to make inventory transfers in computer, and will move materials (such as raw materials, finished product, etc.) in shipping areas using electric, gas, propane, or diesel forklift tractor, and various overhead and lifting cranes. Works daily to ensure assigned areas of responsibility are working with risk lowered to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) specifically in an effort to achieve ZERO HARM so no injuries, illness or negative impact occurs to employees, property, the environment or the community. To be successful in this role you will: Obtain knowledge of safety equipment and safety procedures for shipping/receiving operations Maintain good housekeeping/neat work area Hold a valid forklift operator's license and overhead crane certification (certified in house) Accurately loads, unloads and bands material as required Stores material in proper locations Makes sub-inventory transfers in computer system Obtains pick slips, runs ship confirms, and bills of lading Empties and monitors scrap dumpsters; contacts scrap dealer when needed Stages rod at appropriate machines Cycle counts material, enters cycle count quantities, and runs cycle count reports Handles other duties as assigned within the shipping department as well as the production areas
