About The Position

Summary : The Material Handler is responsible for safely handling and staging material for production at the paint line. The Material Handler is also responsible for preparing necessary materials for packaging of finished coils. In addition to those primary functions, the Material Handler ensures that finished coils are properly identified with a coil identification ticket and are stored properly in a designated location. This is a night shift position .

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or (GED).
  • A minimum of two (2) years shipping/receiving experience in a manufacturing environment or warehouse, and minimum of 2 years of operating a 25ton crane
  • The ability to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence.
  • Also, the ability to communicate information in small group situations to other employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • The ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • The ability to solve problems which, involve multiple variables in a standard situation.
  • Incumbent is required to drive a forklift and operate a 25ton overhead crane and use various power tools.
  • The incumbent must have good communication and organizational skills.
  • The incumbent should also be capable of recognizing metal defects.
  • He/she must have knowledge of shipping procedures and regulations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; bend; stoop; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance.
  • The employee will be required to be capable of lifting a minimum weight of 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee performs near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold or heat.
  • The Material Handler must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing materials to be used for packaging and shipping of finished coils.
  • Responsible for packaging finished coils in a safe manner and moving those coils to a designated location for finished goods.
  • Responsible for verifying that finished goods (coils) are properly identified with an identification ticket prior to moving them to a storage area.
  • Responsible for verifying that finished goods (coils) are not damaged or visibly non-conforming prior to moving them to a designated storage area.
  • Responsible for quarantining non-conforming material (using the HFI process) and notifying Quality Control when non-conforming conditions exist.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place.
  • Communicates daily with internal personnel from Maintenance, Operations and Quality Control in order to help resolve any problems and help achieve company goals.
  • The Material Handler has a responsibility of avoiding environmental impacts such as the release of: oils, grease from forklifts and cranes, solvents, paints and various other chemicals by accidental puncture, while performing your daily duties.
  • Material Handler also has the responsibility to recycle all recyclable materials such as: paper, plastics, cardboard, ink cartridges etc.
  • Caution must be taken to avoid spills and good housekeeping practices are essential as a preventative measure.
  • If a spill occurs, proper measures must be taken to clean up and report.
