About The Position

The Marketing Specialist II position is responsible for promoting the University of Arkansas Power Group’s (UAPG) national and global leadership in wide band gap (WBG) electronics and semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing. This position elevates awareness of UAPG’s research and development capabilities, facilities, partnerships, and workforce initiatives to industry, government, and academic audiences through strategic marketing, communications, and event support. This role develops marketing materials and graphical designs and executes promotional and outreach efforts across a multitude of channels, including social media, webinars, conferences, written materials, tabling, public speaking, photographing events, and attending in-person events. This position is also responsible for designing and developing external long and short form print and media publications, leading webinars, and helps ensure consistent branding and messaging across all UAPG activities. This position blends marketing, communications, and event management, with specific duties including: Leading the creation of marketing content and creative elements for flyers, emails, and social media; drafting articles and press releases; creating content for social media; managing campaigns and scheduling for multiple social media platforms; editing and maintaining multiple websites; preparing for, setting up, staffing, and tearing down related events and conferences; taking photos at all events, facility tours, and of research projects in the lab; editing photos; create and edit videos; creating graphical designs; creating and editing videos; manage listservs and contact databases; creating a webinar schedule and hosting webinars; and assisting with signage, branding, and promotional events related to all activities within the UA Power Group. This position may require work outside of normal business hours. The Marketing Specialist II reports to and is evaluated by the Marketing, Communications, and Events Planning Manager and works in collaboration with colleagues throughout the campus. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, business, or related area of study from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least two years experience in marketing, branding, communications, or related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work alone or on a team.
  • Ability to be self-motivated
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of graphic design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and evaluate problems, as well as devise effective solutions with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage workload
  • Ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously with colleagues

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting technical, research, higher-education, or STEM organizations
  • Event-planning or conference-support experience
  • Experience with content management systems, (e.g. WordPress), Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. InDesign) and Email platforms (e.g. MailChimp)
  • Experience working on community initiatives
  • Experience with Lightroom, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator
  • Experience with email and database marketing
